OUR SUSTAINABLE FUTURE DEPENDS ON HOW
OUR FOOD IS BEING PRODUCED

Do you know where your daily food came from? And the way the animals being caged in farms right now? If not, then it is time for you to know about that. Nowadays, it is not uncommon to find farm animals being caged in terrible condition for food industry. In order to produce food with minimum cost, farms all over the world including in Indonesia invested in horrible farming system where large amount of animals put in tiny cages. Helping to change this condition is important thing for us to do.

We Should be Concern Based on

THE ANIMALS

In modern farming system, keep animals in tiny cages or crammed cages is considered as normal. Science already proved that animals who are being caged in extreme condition tend to feel stressed and frustrated all their life.
They can barely move so they can’t express their natural behavior. Other various studies also stated that animals such as poultry, cows, goats, pigs and sheep are living creature that can feel pain and emotions. They don’t deserve to be treated like machines

HUMAN HEALTH

In intensive cage system, also called factory farming, it is very common that the farm animals were given antibiotics continuously even when they are not sick. This is a false practice and proved to improve intake for antibiotics resistant bacteria.
The World Health Organization already issued a warning that when the irresponsible use for antibioticcs on animals and human is allowed, then we could experience a post-antibiotic period when curable diseases can caused death.
In the last decades, there have been several fatal diseases never found before that are transmitted from animals, AIDS from meat trade in Africa; SARS from live animal markets; and monkeypox virus from exotic animal trades

ENVIRONMENT

In the farms that use natural system – such as free range and organics – the animals are often fed with plant based food, On the other hand, factory farming use animal food – such as fishmeal. Researches showed that we can reduce negative impact on our environment from layer chicken farming, for instance, using only vegetarian food. The scientists at University of British Columbia has concluded that when layer chickens only consume organics and vegetarian food, this can reduce CO2 more than 50%.

The use of fishmeal as animal food has raised some attention. According to the UN, around 15 million tons fish were caught every year to produce fishmeal and mostly used in chicken farms
