WILDLIFE
WELFARE

Domesticated animals have been living alongside humans for centuries. Sharing each others company was beneficial for both humans and animals. Dogs, for instance, kept an eye out for predators, warning humans for danger. And at night human and dog kept each other warm in cold weather conditions. Both benefitting from the each other’s company.

Wildlife has not been in contact with humans and lives
independently. They have not been domesticated for centuries
and are not suitable to be domesticated. Mostly they are very
afraid of humans and will hide from humans.

Some people disagree and will have bought wildlife as an infant, and have ‘domesticated’ it in their home surroundings. For example baby monkeys being kept in diapers and milk bottle fed. And always when wildlife that was bought as an infant grows up and starts displaying it’s ‘wildlife character’, people will not want to keep the
animal anymore. The sad truth is they have often taken away it’s chance of a normal life. Imprinting and schooling would have been done by it’s con-species most of it’s young life. For example, orang utans need 7 years of schooling by their mother
before they can live independently.

It is impossible to meet all wildlife’s needs in captivity. Any attempt to domesticate, cage, restrain or catch and keep wildlife will lead to stress, illness and sometimes even death.

It all comes down to be aware of an animal species specific needs, behavior, nutritional needs, environmental needs. Their species specific social living conditions for example solitary or family groups. Even the most elaborate and sophisticated enclosure cannot meet ‘living in freedom in the wild’.

Wildlife needs to be left alone, living their life in the wild forest, deep seas and open skies. Here the phrase ‘let them be wild’ is very applicable.

Enjoy wildlife by going on ‘wildlife tours’ with professional guides, who will tell you all about the wonderful life of Wildlife in the Wild.
