World Cat Day Marked by the Launch of Animal-Friendly School Program
Jakarta, August 8, 2025 – The celebration of World Cat Day at SDN Menteng 02 Jakarta was truly special. Animal Welfare Indonesia, through the JAAN Domestic initiative, launched the “Animal-Friendly School” program, a concrete step to build a generation that is empathetic, environmentally conscious, and aware of animal welfare.
A Celebration Full of Education and Joy
The atmosphere at SDN Menteng 02 Jakarta on World Cat Day was filled with smiles from children, teachers, and the education team. This event combined entertainment with meaningful learning through:
- Read Aloud and Mini Games
Students listened to animal-themed stories and played educational games that taught them how to treat animals with love and care. - animalwelfare.id Literacy Corner
The inauguration of a reading corner containing books and materials on animal welfare, accessible to students every day. - Teacher Workshop
A training session for teachers of SDN Menteng 02 Jakarta to help integrate animal welfare values into their teaching and learning activities.
World Cat Day as the Launch Moment
The Animal-Friendly School program was launched to coincide with World Cat Day, a celebration that invites people around the world to care more about the welfare of cats and other animals.
This moment was chosen because it aligns with the spirit of the program: fostering empathy and care for animals from an early age. Cats, often seen by children at home, in schoolyards, or on the streets, serve as real-life examples close to their daily lives.
Through the activities on World Cat Day, the children at SDN Menteng 02 Jakarta learned that treating animals with kindness is part of building a caring and responsible character.
Four Main Goals of the Animal-Friendly School Program
-
Improve animal welfare literacy in the school environment.
-
Cultivate empathy and care for animals from an early age.
-
Integrate animal welfare values into both formal and non-formal learning.
-
Support character education and sustainability through positive human-animal interactions.
A Hope for the Next Generation
Animal Welfare Indonesia and JAAN Domestic hope that this program will reach thousands of children in schools across Indonesia. Fun and relatable education is expected to shape a generation that cares about animals and the environment.
